I mean how many families can say they check their blog on a weekly basis, which I do, but don't update it for a year and a half. What fortitude, what perseverance, to weekly come and see the same writing week after week, month after month, and not once click on the new post button. When in the future people talk about blogs left to die, they will talk with reverence about a blog that lived but only in the mind of the blogger.

Actually I was trying for a historical document. I wanted time and space to come to a standstill. So for all you people (read none) who check out this blog.....you may look at this historical date and celebrate the occasion, by going on Facebook.

M

New happenings in the Calder household. Marty got a new job as a Program Manager for Center Case Management and DD Services. Otherwise known as Center DDA. It is very exciting, and lets him do administrative work with adults and children with disabilities. He is setting up the DDA, and writing all the programs. He loves the work, and has a great opportunity with this job.

Tawny's cleaning business is bustling, and although we didn't get the larger business we had hoped, it is going well. She is now the compassionate service leader at church, which means she arranges for meals and such for funerals, and births in the ward.

Taylor is working at Belmont Care Center, an agency that works with developmentally disabled adults in a group home setting. He likes it, and the schedule works well with his schedule of video games!!

Madison is busy in school, and is looking forward to the end of school as well. She has lots of friends and is busy with band, and young women's, and having fun.

Regan is also busy in school and young women's. She is particularly good at literature. She had an exciting day the other day at school, as her school had a gas leak and was evacuated.

Everyone is preparing and getting excited for a planned trip to Washington this summer. It is Marty's high school class reunion, and then we are heading up the coast to see Forks. Marty was raised just a few miles away, and so Maddie, Tawny and Regan are all jealous.

Marty pretty much went to school with Edward.

It should be a full trip as they plan on going to Seattle as well.

The Calders

Updates

Well, my idea to have Madison update this site, has been let's say, not successful. He claims that by the end of a very boring and tedious movie, he wanted "someone to die". He dressed up and sat on our porch and scared all the trick or treaters. Some even threw candy at him. He was in his element. He is starting to date a little, and seems to be enjoying life and his PlayStation 3. All you cousins, make sure you play it when you come over.

Madison is still liking High School, and is again volunteering at the Hospital. She hopes to be in the drum line and percussion group that the school is starting. She got a nice calculator to do her math with...since she is in advanced classes. The thing cost 120.00. Wow. She hangs with her friends, and went over to a friend for Halloween. She is very excited to drive, and we went up to the church parking lot to practice a little.

Regan is loving 6th grade and her teacher. She had her last trick or treat through the neighborhood. We went on my scooter. She had a classroom party as well, that both Tawny and I went to. She was a cowgirl. On Halloween night, she went as a hunchback, which got a lot of appreciation from the houses, as it was very "old school". She is getting excited to go into young women's, which happens early next month. Her best friend is already going, so that makes it even more exciting.

BJ is still hating cats, and loving Tawny. He is also very protective of Saki, when he comes over. He does have a problem with pillows, but we are staging an intervention soon for him. He thinks the sun and moon rise over Tawny, and she barely tolerates him. He barks at me, when I get too close to Tawny.

Marty, still working in the prison, as well as with the kids with Autism, it is a lot of work, but we finally are getting to get out from under the unemployment rock. I am still applying for jobs at ISU, and just interviewed with the church for a professional position at DI. We will see what happens there. Still riding the scooter...of course...and hope to hit a couple of scooter rallies this next year. I would also like to be able to get the kids up to Washington this summer.

Tawny still has her cleaning business and it is humming right along. She wishes she could get some employees, as people call her all the time to clean their house. She loves that Costco is in town, and is saving money right and left. The only thing better is the dollar store:) She is still YW President, and all the girls love her. She does all that, and the majority of all the housework so she is busy. We just pulled the carpet out of our bedroom, and she is very pleased.

Overall we are doing well, and appreciate our family. What kind of car did you drive? Red Toyota Corolla. Loved the car....My mention in the class prophecy was about that car.
3. What was the most embarrassing moment of HS? Similar to Cody's although I was embarrassed. I thought it was cool to wear these old 1950's shorts that buttoned up the front. Well we were in PE, and we were starting to wrestle. My opponent just fell on the mat. I looked down, and there was an appearance. I also fell to the ground, but not next to him. I don't know if I ever lived that down. I still go to therapy.
4. Were you a party animal? In my school, I was the antithesis of party animal. Cody Antithesis means..opposite!
5. Were you considered a flirt? I tried really hard...but I was too concerned about what girls said to be a flirt. Did flirt with the two gals in yearbook with me. Darkroom is all I have to say.
6. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir? Choir...but I teased the choir teacher about liking the home EC teacher and he gave me a "C".
7. Were you a nerd? For sure.

8. Were you on any varsity teams? Basketball. Mom thought I too tiny to play football...me being 6'5" 240 and all.

9. Did you get suspended/expelled? One fight in my whole school career. Principal sent me to my dad, who was a teacher. That was worse then getting expelled.
10. Can you still sing the fight song? Elks, Elks Elks.

11. Who were your favorite teachers? Calder, of course. Lynch.
12. Where did you sit during lunch? Hung out in the gym, playing ball.
13. School mascot? Elks. That's right, an Elk...at least it was an animal that lived there.
14. Did you go to homecoming, and with who? Junior year went with Jenny Hale. First ah..kiss, in a European way;) I was a late bloomer with the chicks.
15. If you could go back and do it again, would you? Yea, with LOTS more confidence.
16. What do you remember most about graduation? That my cool song for us leaving sounded like crap.

17. Where did you go senior skip day? Skip day at and senior trip to Ocean Shores, WA. It was about 30 miles from our school. We weren't the most motivated class in earning money. My buddies and I did what we wanted, which was opposite of what all the other kids were doing. Got my first taste of riding scooters!!

18. Were you in any clubs? Letterman's club, and finding a way to raid the home EC fridge.
19. Have you gained some weight since then? Just a scosh.
20. Who was your prom date? That was my redemption. Since my lack of sexual activity in a school, where that was a requirement, and my freshmen year debacle..many in my class, sort of doubted me. My Church flame, Lori Prescott, was my date. Most everyone was impressed. She was cute, and they didn't know her. I look back, and she kind of had big teeth, but at the time, I thought she was babe city.
21. Are you planning on going to your 10 year reunion? Is that mistyped...did it say 100. Missed 10 years because of my dad passing away. I don't think we will get together again.
22. Looking back, what advice would you give yourself? I agree with Cody, study more. Also, don't worry about what people will say. Play football.

Oh by the way....I have like one blurry high school picture...that I took with a digital camera. We had film in those days!!!

Academy Graduation

For those of you unaware, I (Marty) have spent the last 4 weeks in Boise, at Corrections Academy.

I took the job for the women's prison in May, and they sent us to the Academy on July 7th. It has been a lot of work, and a lot of fun. I have met a lot of great people in the department, and feel really at home here.

The academy consists of classroom courses as well as practical experiences. Our courses ranged from inmate con games to mental health. Our practical courses were Arrest techniques, which ranged from restraints (hand cuffs) to self defense and pain compliance.

We went to the range and qualified on pistols as well as shot guns.

Finally we had the great experience of getting a nice dose of oleoresin capsicum spray, other wise known as law enforcement grade pepper spray.

If and when I get some pictures from that, I will share them.

Graduation was on Friday the 1st, and though I didn't garner any awards, my grades on the tests were in the top of the class. Thanks for every ones support.

Happy Birthday, Maddie!!!

Maddie turned fourteen on June 10. It was a lot of fun, and Regan and I had a good time. We were there the same time as a big classic car show, and we got a lot of response from the crowd!! Regan got her picture taken on the back of the scooter, because we looked so cool. My friend Derek drove us down from Provo. Thanks Ife and Celeste for the use of the truck. It ran well.

My friend Dave Hurtado, who owns a scooter shop down in Orem reserved the campsite and provided Friday night dinner. On Saturday we went into Arches National Park. Derek, under the mistaken assumption that we got in free last year, got us in free this year. The lady probably just felt sorry for us, thinking "who the heck rides a scooter"!!

We also had a lot of fun hiking around Arches. We went to Landscape Arch, and hiked to some other spots as well. It was cool parking our 11 scooters together in the parking lot.

I will add some picture later, but wanted to at least update everyone on the happenings.

On the job front, I have a job offer from the Dept of Corrections, to work at the Women's Prison here in Pocatello. It wasn't my first choice, but it is a State job with good benefits. The pay is OK, but it is full-time. I also have a contingent offer from the State Police to work as a dispatcher. It, however, is a part-time job, and so I would have to work somewhere else as well. When my old company, ALA has some hours to work with kids, I could work for them. Finally I interviewed with Gold's Gym to be a local HR guy for them.
